Wife of asbestos victim appeals for information

Posted in: Asbestos Exposure Employer Negligence Mesothelioma

The widow of a former dockyard worker who died as a result of asbestos exposure has appealed for information surrounding her late husband’s working conditions. Kenneth Strong died at age 80 after battling mesothelioma, a cancer caused by asbestos exposure, for five-months. His wife Jean is appealing to her husband’s colleagues to assist in an investigation into the working conditions of the dockyard.

Ken died earlier this year after contracting mesothelioma, a cancer in the lining of the lungs, at work. He began work at Devonport Royal Dockyard at the age of 15 as an apprentice ships fitter. Before his death, Ken said that he had to work in areas of ships laden with asbestos with no protective clothing or safety information

“Find some answers and secure justice for Ken”

In August of last year, Ken fell ill with what was believed to be mesothelioma. Doctors were unable to test for the cancer, as his lungs were too weak to have a biopsy or endure chemotherapy. For the next few months he became increasingly ill before spending his last few days in Rowcroft Hospice in Torquay.

Ken’s wife has launched an investigation to determine whether or not anything more could have been done his employers to protect the workers from this deadly material. She said: “I hope with the help of Ken’s former colleagues we will be able to find some answers and secure justice for Ken.
