Detectives have released details regarding a recent dog attack that took place on Blackpool promenade. Lesley Wilson (54) was viciously attacked at around 23:00 BST on the 8th July near the sea wall, in the south side of the popular resort. Following the attack, Ms Wilson has endured two operations – one being a skin graft.

Dog attacked for no reason

At the time of the attack, Ms. Wilson was with her friend, both of whom are deaf, and said they had been walking down the promenade when the dog attacked for no reason. They believed that the dog belonged to two nearby men who were fishing just past the Sandcastle Water Park. They said that the dog just ran towards them and attacked: Ms. Wilson was severely injured as the dog mauled her leg. When her friend, Shobna Akhtar, tried to intervene, she too was bitten.

Lancashire Police said that following the attack; the presumed owner of the dog put it back on the lead and ran off towards Pleasure Beach. Another fisherman, who witnessed the incident, contacted emergency services and Ms. Wilson was immediately taken to the Royal Preston Hospital. She received emergency treatment but told media: “I have had two operations, and I am still in hospital – not walking yet”.

Det Insp Kev Simmons said: “Both ladies will be scarred for life as a result of the injuries they received and we are determined to trace the people responsible for this animal.
