Laser treatment severely burns client

A claimant has won £5,000 in compensation after sustaining burns to her arms and legs after receiving hair removal laser treatment.  The woman had gone to a beauty salon to have several areas of her body lasered, including her lower legs and arms, which left her with visible burn marks upon completion of the treatment.  It was subsequently discovered that the beautician carrying out the treatment had turned the power of the laser too high, resulting in the burns.

Derby school for deaf ‘inadequate’

Following an inspection carried out by Ofsted last December, the residential Royal School for the Deaf in Derby has been put into special measures.  This follows the discovery by inspectors that children were being put at risk of grooming and that pupil safety was not being prioritised.  Following December’s inspection, a week long, unannounced inspection carried out in March found that recommendations for improvement had still not been implemented, and that “emergency safeguarding systems put in place by leaders” since the December inspection were “unsound”.

Council paid out £150,000 compensation in last five years

Recently released figures have revealed that Thanet Council has paid out around £150,000 in compensation to injury claimants in the past five years alone.  The figures were attained as a result of a Freedom of Information Act request made by the Gazette newspaper, finding that a total of 70 claims had been made against the council in the last five years.  In only the past year, a total of 13 claims were made, with a total of £28,298 being paid-out

Council fined for elderly’s fall

An 82-year-old dementia sufferer has sustained severe cuts and bruises after falling into an open sewer at her care home in Doncaster. The council has been fined over £7,000 for leaving the 2 meter-deep manhole unguarded at Oldfield House in Stainforth.
